STEGIX advantages

Comparative table of the STEGIX advantages

Compared to traditional methods of tooth replacement that are bridges with crowns on natural teeth and implants with crowns, STEGIX offers many benefits that appeal to the patient and the practitioner. In the following table, we compare STEGIX with standard techniques.

Minimally invasive (minimal preparation)

STEGIX

Stegix

As shown in this illustration, a tiny cavity on the adjacent teeth (pillar teeth) is sufficient to the anchor beams of STEGIX. It is important to note that this cavity is often achieved by changing an old filling already present on the abutment teeth, especially due to the presence of an old decay. Therefore, the preparation necessary to achieve the STEGIX technique is minimally invasive due to the small size of the cavities to prepare.

BRIDGE on crowns

Stegix

As shown in this illustration, the "massive mutilation" that the preparation of crowns demands on for the bridge and the risk or the need for a root canal treatment has nothing to do with the tooth substance removed to make the tiny cavities needed to accommodate STEGIX. This crown preparation can be described as very invasive unlike STEGIX.

IMPLANT

Stegix Stegix Stegix

Implants require surgery involving the gums and bone and is only for people in good health. As these three pictures illustrate, it can also be described as very invasive, unlike STEGIX.

No risk for a root canal treatment

The necessary preparation to perform the STEGIX technique is minimally invasive because of the tiny cavities to prepare the abutment teeth. Therefore, the risk of necrosis of the nerve is almost zero. In contrast, during the preparation of a bridge, the risk of a root canal treatment (necrosis nerve) is present, given that it removes a significant amount of tooth substance.

STEGIX

The STEGIX technique is ideal because the entire STEGIX frame and composite fillings are always above the gums, which means :

  • The attached gums to the abutment tooth only affects the natural tooth, so there is no risk of irritation and gums retraction by these foreign bodies.
  • The edges of the composite fillings are accessible for cleaning, so the risk of build-up of microbes is controllable and presents almost zero risk to the dental cavities.

BRIDGE on crowns

The limits of the crowns are often located under the edge of the gum for cosmetic reasons. The risk of gums irritation and microbe deposits are real, unlike with STEGIX.

IMPLANT

The caries risk is nonexistent here but the risk of a periodontal disease is much higher. First, by the limits of sub gingival crowns,  secondly, because the attachment of the implant to the bone and gum is an artificial attachment of a natural tooth to the bone and gums.

Preserved mobility vs. Rigidity

Importantly, it is worth remembering that natural teeth are mobile.

IMPLANT

When a tooth is replaced with the implant technique, the new artificial tooth is not mobile. The implant is osseo integrated, this means that the implant is in direct contact with the bone. Therefore, there is no possible movement between the implant and the bone, unlike with natural teeth where they can absorb the pressure of chewing and therefore protect the bone.

BRIDGEand STEGIX

Here, the vertical mobility of the roots of the pillars in the alveolar bone is maintained. The horizontally mobility is different for each pillar and this is impossible for a conventional bridge, unlike with STEGIX:

STEGIX is a flexible bridge as shown in the pictures above. Only parts of the beams in the abutment teeth are attached (glued) and therefore they are left free to slide in the frame of the prosthetic tooth. This allows different mobility of the abutment teeth, similar to natural teeth.

Simplicity of operation

Unlike traditional methods of tooth replacement that require high precision from the dentist and the dental laboratory, STEGIX operation has an almost childlike simplicity. Cavity preparation to accommodate the frame of the STEGIX is comparable to the simple treatment of tooth decay with the white fillings composite.

In the case of bridge crowns, a lack of precision of the dentist or the dental laboratory can have serious consequences, including tooth decay, gingivitis and periodontal diseases.

In the case of implants, the success depends on a combination of the precision required for the construction of the crown together with the surgical skill of the dentist.

Improved reversibility

The STEGIX technique uses composite resins at first to build the artificial tooth around the STEGIX frame, then to fix the beams of this artificial tooth to the abutment teeth. The use of composites resins allows for repairs directly in the mouth. In addition, if it is necessary to remove the STEGIX structure, it is easy to take away with a drill, leaving cavities immediately ready for a new STEGIX structure.

Reversibility of traditional techniques is much lower or nonexistent. In case of failure, it is often necessary to start from all over again, and :

  • regarding bridges with crowns, complications often appear under the crowns and a root canal treatment is often necessary,
  • for implants, it frequently happens that large bone loss occurs, which jeopardizes the foundation of the adjacent teeth.
Stegix

This x-ray shows that the thread of the implant is out of the bone. The microbes present on the surface necessarily proliferate and form a bony crater which compromises the retention thus the life of the implant, and decreases the thickness of the bone surrounding the root of the adjacent tooth. Even if the implant does not move yet, this is a failure, and the extraction delay only worsens the prognosis of this adjacent natural tooth.

Price

"With STEGIX the patient spends less money and saves time."

A major advantage of STEGIX is its price. STEGIX is 35% to 50% cheaper than the other techniques (bridges or crowns on natural teeth or on implants). The reason for this price difference is explained by the fact that the STEGIX technique is performed a lot faster than traditional techniques. Therefore, there are less appointments and their duration is shorter.

Reducing the number of appointments and their duration will decrease the time away from patient's activities, which also has a price but this is often forgotten.

Aesthetics guaranteed

With STEGIX you can check and confirm your appearance first.

With STEGIX the new prosthetic tooth can be chosen from many teeth prefabricated or custom-built and tested in the mouth. Then, if the patient has approved, the laboratory can introduce a frame and the dentist can prepare the anchor cavities and seal this prechecked tooth in the mouth. This way the patient avoids any surprises.

With older techniques, the artificial teeth are all sealed in the mouth with crowns. The dentist must  prepare in advance the abutments in the mouth and after the laboratory can custom build prosthetic teeth which should fit on these abutments. Therefore the dentist’s preparation must happen before the laboratory work and the final appearance can only be seen at the last appointment. Then the patient may be surprised to discover the aesthetic qualities of his mouth and it is too late to change.

This STEGIX advantage is particularly interesting for front teeth since aesthetic appearance is so important.

Comfort treatment

With the new STEGIX technique the comfort of the patient's treatment is much higher when compared with traditional techniques. With STEGIX we can replace your missing tooth with only one anesthesia. The time spent in the dentist’s office is less because we only need two appointments (2 hours total) to replace your tooth with a STEGIX. And for patients with little time, this treatment can even be done in the course of a single day.

Time spent at the dentist and waiting times are not comparable with other techniques, which can exceed six months for dental implants.

No counter indication to the health or lifestyle of the patient

Unlike implants that are reserved for people in good physical and mental health, who heal well, do not smoke and have perfect oral hygiene, the STEGIX technique and bridges have no restrictions concerning a person’s health or their lifestyle.

STEGIX uses a stainless steel metal frame, identical to that used in Switzerland for medical implants. This metal is called implant 1.4441 / AISI 316L / ISO 5832/1 and is 100% Swiss made. Its use is recommended for those who have these medical prostheses because it does not create a galvanic current. Veneering materials used to create a composite bridge STEGIX are last generation but can also be made of ceramic materials upon request. The Manufacturing of the STEGIX bridge is provided by a STEGIX dental laboratory.
